THE KATIE LEES FELLOWSHIP

The Katie Lees Fellowship was set up to support female / female identifying artists, 34 years and younger through a creative process of developing new work. The fellowship is now a joint project between Flight Path Theatre and The Katie Lees Foundation. The KL Foundation work hard to raise money to provide financial support to the recipient of the KLF so they can dedicate themselves to developing work they are passionate about.

Flight Path Theatre provides the theatre space and ongoing mentoring throughout the timeframe. Dates are set aside for a development showing of some fashion. In 2024 the Katie Lees Fellowship dates in the theatre are the 20th of October to the 2nd of November 2024.

Application close Feb 18 2024.

We welcome all applications for the 2024 Katie Lees Fellowship below:

Katie Lees tragically died on the 4th of August 2021 from thrombosis with thrombocytopenia caused by the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Katie was set to be the first actor back on stage at Flight Path Theatre just as soon as our doors reopened. Katie was to present her play called Temporary, which she wrote and produced and was, like Katie, full of guts, humour, compassion, tenacity and a reflection of humankind.

Katie spent her life making connections, with the natural world around her and the thousands of people she encountered on her travels. Katie did not waste her energy on trivial things like a stable income or the property market, she poured her energy into creating theatre and more specifically, she had begun to hone in on comedy and gosh could she make people laugh!

The Katie Lees Fellowship is designed to support a young female/female identifying theatre maker. In 2022, Flight Path Theatre was awarded a grant through Inner West Council and together with generous donations from Katie’s friends and family made in her honour, we supported two theatre makers through a development period of a script/concept at Flight Path Theatre, culminating in a run of the production late last year.

In 2023 the Katie Lees Fellowship was funded through the Katie Lees Foundation and Flight Path Theatre. The foundation is now accepting donations for the KLF 2024.
